Radioactivity analysis for EPS waste using organic solvents

In this study, the recovery rates of dissolution method for radioactivity analysis expandable polystyrene (EPS) with a liquid scintillation counter (LSC) using tetrahydrofuran (THF), toluene, and acetone as solvents were estimated. The detection efficiency calibration curve each solvent was derived. Two methods—the volumetric ratio quenching agent method—were used to prepare quench source sets, curves derived by linking data from two sets. R2 value THF found be 0.984. relationship between mass dissolved EPS level estimated: increased increased. Premix postmix methods tested. premix 84.9 ± 0.9% 96.5 1.5% 3H 14C, respectively. Furthermore, stability rate over time when evaluated. premixed solution exhibited more stable time. applicable LSC, most suitable proposed method.
